Welcome to "The Roaring
Meg" website , the online presence for the popular
Biddulph Pub. Between 1991 and October 2003 the pub was
called "The Pennine Tavern" and this site was
constructed for the locals as a way to share photo's,
keep everyone up-to-date with the latest news.
The Roaring Meg or "The Meg" as it is
known to it's locals is situated in Biddulph, a small town on the Staffordshire-Cheshire
Border. As you can see from the photograph above, it is
one of the most unique looking (or should that be 'wierd
looking') pubs you are likely to find in the country.

Built in 1974 the Meg prides itself on its friendly atmosphere
and community spirit. In 1991, the pub was refurbished and changed
its name to The Pennine Tavern. In the Autumn of 2003, its name
was reverted back to the original "Roaring Meg" - named
after the cannon that was used at Congleton Edge in the attack
against Biddulph Old Hall in the English Civil War.
The pub is open daily from 12pm through to 11pm Sunday-Thursday, and 12pm - 12am on Friday & Saturday. An excellent
selection of food and bar snacks are available between the hours of 12pm -
9pm.
O.A.P. discount is available on selected items. We also serve a fantastic selection of wines, and guest ales.

The Roaring Meg is ran by Chris
and Mick Waters who have previously run both the the Roebuck
and the Talbot in Biddulph. Forget Wetherspoons, why not
come to a pub with entertainment, personality and music.
In the summer why not come along and enjoy a pint in
our beer garden (ok I know its just a bit of grass with
some benches dotted around it, but I'm trying to sell
the pub here) or if you're into football, the Tavern
has not one but two large screen TVs, 3 TV's behind the bar, and is the best pub
in the town to watch the football action. Its now possible
to show 3 separate football matches or sporting events
at the same time. Monday Night is host to the infamous General Knowledge and Music
Quiz hosted by Ecke.

The pub has one of the most unique atmospheres you'll ever find, and is famed for all of its themed nights and events. Over the last few years we've had Bucking Bronco's, Hot Tub Days, Elvis nights, & a snow machine in the pub, just to name a few. The regulars also get involved in helping charities and have raised thousands for good causes. The barmaids all posed in a 'Calendar Girls' style calendar to raise money for Breast cancer, and the lads took part in a charity waxing. To find out more about the good cause's we've supported then check out the News page.
The Meg now has a pub darts team, 2 pool teams, 2 football teams,
2 crib teams, and a quiz team in the
Staffordshire Leagues. This season
the quiz team won not only the league but also the knockout cup!
|
There is also a wide range of bar games, including Pool,
Darts, Domino's, a fruit machine and an online quiz machine. You can
find people playing Poker or Cribbage in the pub as well most nights
of the week. |
|
|
If you've never been to the pub before then why not pay us a
visit one night. After seeing this website we have had people
from as far as London coming up for a pint (This is no joke).
