Tav Trumps |
29/12/2005 |
 |
| |
It
was pointed out to me tonight that the cards
on Tav
Trumps were starting to get a little
out of date. Some of the people in the game
no longer frequented the Meg as often, and
some of the new regulars were missed out.
I've replaced about 10 cards with some familiars
faces from the pub. Pit Rosie against Craig,
Thornton against Carl, and see who would
be victorius between Boony and Shez. Click
here to try out the new version of the game |

While
sorting through the pictures of Chloe's party
(which were kindly provided by Dave Hare
and Lori), I noticed this striking similarity.
I'm probably gonna be a dead man for posting
this but I think its funny. The photo's for Chloe's
Buckin Bronco 19th Birthday party are now online. Check them out to see some
brilliant shots of Carl and Karen and a few
other literally grabbing the bull by its
horn. |

Late
Saturday night 1st October vandals attempted
to steal Danni's old Fiesta off the carpark
at around 3am. When they coudln't get it
moved more than a few metres they set fire
to the car, which as you can see from the
picture completely wrecked it and damaged
2 other cars in the process. Danni has some
pictures on her
blog.
Here's Danni's
account of what happened taken from her

well I had
a fun night last night!
i worked in the pub
last night and cause my dad is away on
a stag weekend i had the duty if locking
up with my mum, so when everyone had gone we took the dog for a
walk outside the pub, just to do a
check to see that all was ok, commented on
what a clear night it was, said our goodbyes
for the nigh and that was that.
I get a txt message
from my bro, something about a car been
stolen an its on fire and i could get the
house. now at this
time in the morning on a staurday night i
didnt take it serious i just thought he was
drunk or something. so not been able to figure
out the txt i call him...
... some hooligans broke
into my old fiesta (which has been
donated to brother for when he learns
to drive at the end of the month) theyve
moved the fiesta on the car park, didnt
get far cause its been standing still
for a year, no battery, no petrol and
flat tyres, jus to start. so failing
the opportunity to nick it, they set
it on fire next to two more cars!...
...fortunatley the neighbour
was up quite late and noticed how bright
it was outside, having a nose out the window,
saw the car on fire coming screaming across
the street trying to wake my mum and brother,
the fire engines turned up and put the car out.
theres not a lot left just the crappy platic
alloys (how ironic). so there you go. i turned
up just as they put the car out, so it was
stinking and smoking when i arrived. My brother
said that it lit the sky, the car and the
van near have suffered minor meltage, the
fiesta is now melted to the floor so its
gonna take some haulin to get it moved.

Yet
another Fancy Dress party, and what a fantastic
night it was. It was Naomi's 21st birthday
and she picked the Theme "Hero's and Villains".
Everyone made a superb effort and there were
some hilarious costumes, including Belf dressed
up as Scooby Doo. Naomi dressed as Marilyn
Manson, and Danni was made a great Willy
Wonka. The big shock of the night was Christian
actually dressing up for a change. To find

The
annual Walmsley BBQ is infamous with the
old regulars from the Meg. Rob, never one
to go with the norm of burgers and hotdogs
decided to beat last years shark and goat
menu and opt this time for a full spit-roasted
pig! Of course, we all know that only one
thing is going to happen when men, beer,
and a dead animal come together...
I've encoded a video to

Red
Nose Day - Si Bares All |
30/03/2005 |
 |
| |
The
pub went full out this year to celebrate
Comic Relief and Red Nose Day, and if u've
heard any disturbing rumours about Si Cope
dancing starkers on the pool table to the
Cha Cha slide to raise £125 for charity
then I'm afraid they're all true. Yes it
was a disturbing experience, but good on
the lad for literally having the balls to
do it. To find out more about Si and the
rest of the night click

Over the Christmas period the Roaring Meg has featured in articles by the Chronicle and the Sentinel. Both papers have ran stories on our 2005 calendar, and their write up's have been superb (even if they can't spell some names correctly). I've included a scanned copy of all of the reports below. I have also included a copy of the article the chronicle did on the sponsored waxing..

Who can believe that yet another year is over. The Meg was the place to be this year with tickets being like gold dust. The theme of the night was the Rocky Horror Picture Show and although when it was first announced people didn't seem to enthusiastic when it came to the crunch, men and women alike didn't let us down and turned out in their stockings and suspenders. Meg 2005 Charity Calendar |
23/12/2004 |
 |
 |
It all started as joking conversation one morning between Rob, Ecke, Chris and Sam about getting all of the staff to strip for a calendar girls style calendar to raise money for charity. Before we knew it Chris had somehow managed to persuade all of the girls that it was a good idea and a photo shoot had been planned. Early one Saturday and Sunday morning before the pub opened everyone arrived without a clue of what to expect but it didn't take them long to figure out their shots and get in position to pose for the camera. A few days later the photo's went off to the printers and earlier this week the calendars arrived.
The calendar features all of the female bar staff and for a taster of what to expect check out the picture to the left. All profits raised from the calendar are being equally divided between Breast Cancer charities and Biddulph In Bloom. |
|
The calendar is now onsale behind the bar. If you live out of the area and would like to purchase a copy then drop me an email calendar@roaring-meg.co.uk. The calendar costs £7.50, but we are accepting any payments over that figure and all the money will go to the charities involved. |

This years pre-Christmas disco had the theme "School Disco" and everyone was asked to dig out their old school uniforms for the night (a lot easier for some than others). At least 80% of the pub turned up wearing shirts and ties, and all the girls skirts seemed a lot shorter and the tops were unbuttoned down further than how I remember them when I was at school. On Saturday 20th November, resident DJ John "The Cheesemeister" Cornelius had his stag do. 35 pub regulars descended on to Chester for an afternoon of the most drunken bowling you've ever seen and a night out on the town. As everyone knows pranks are a common part of any stag do and Johns was no exception. As a surprise we'd organised to get him a Snow White costume to wear out for the day. The bowling staff were really shocked when a drunken Snow White and an overly sized dwarf (yep John had got his best man a costume too) fell through the door at lunch time.
The funniest part of the day was first thing in the morning. John had been told to expect a lift to the pub at 10.30. What he didn't expect was Ecke had planned a daring |

|
| |
kidnapping of him. At 8am while he was still in bed, 3 masked men burst in on him, put a bag over his head, handcuffed his arms and legs and carried him downstairs, out of the house and into the back of a waiting getaway van. There's nothing like starting a stag do in style, and theres nothing like capturing it all on camera. Thanks to Jacko for providing the clip, so if you want to see John being kidnapped then click here to download the video. Its 3.7Mb. |

Mondays quiz was taken over by the Roaring Meg F.C.'s charity waxing to raise money for the McMillan hospital. Ad, Bill, Rich, Si and Ecke all stepped up and had body parts waxed for money. At first count they raised well over £400, and are a lot smoother in certain areas. To find out the full story and to see pictures of Si's balls being waxed then click here. |

If there is one thing that the Meg is becoming famous for, its the Fancy Dress parties that are held. This halloween was no expection with loads of people dressing up. There were witches and devils gallore, an appearance from Supergirl, and even a few of the scariest (or should that be funniest) Dracula's you've ever seen. John was DJ'ing and hosted a Best costume competition that this year involved quite a nasty drinking game. For more info and the photo's click here. |

Charity Night and London's Bulging |
07/10/2004 |
 |
 |
The following is taken straight out of the Biddulph Chronicle - A pub raised £1000 to buy equipment for 2 hospitals when Mick Waters and his staff at The Roaring Meg, Pennine Way, Biddulph, held a charity evening last Saturday (11th September). The event had been organised by Jo Garner (pictured left) for the M.A.S.T scanner appeal at Macclesfield and ward 100 at the University hospital of North Staffordshire. Regulars dug deep into their pockets after an evening of live music and a barbecue and bought tickets for a raffle drawn on the night. The scanner appeal's Janet Ward is pictured receiving the cheque. |

Finally you'll be glad to here that I've had chance to upload and write a review of Chloe's 18th Birthday. As with all Meg parties it was fancy dress and the theme of the night was Action Man and Barbie. Loads of people came in costume, and we had a night of some of the most adventurous drinking games the pub has ever seen. Forget about the England Vs France match on Sunday, an even bigger game will be taking place on the Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday afternoon the Meg A will be playing cricket against the Meg B. This will be the competition to beat all other competitions. One side managered by Rob Walmsley and the other led out by Gogo! It will surely be an afternoon to remember.
The match starts a 2pm at Mill Hayes Cricket club. Please turn up and show your support for our boys. For those that can't attend I'll be there to take some pictures for the website and give a blow by blow review of the match.
If anyone is interested in joining either team then either have a word with Ecke, Mick, Rob, or Gogo in the Meg. |

Roaring Meg Vs Pennine Tavern |
26/05/2004 |
 |
| |
Last Sunday morning the pub's current football team played a friendly match against the pubs new B side. It was the B Side's (managed by quiz master Rob Walmsley) first ever match and also their first ever practise together. Phil Hazeldine did an outstanding job of finding a pitch - the one he chose was on a slope and had grass about 1 foot high. That didn't ruin play though and the final result was 8-4 to the A-Team. I'd like to give a more indepth report but I slept in and missed the match - I'll speak to some of the players soon to find out more.
Also this Sunday at 10.30am there will be a pub cricket match. I'm still awaiting more details but will post them here when I know more. |

Ecke & Pete spotted out on the town |
26/05/2004 |
 |

Although this isn't really news worthy - I thought that it was funny and worth a mention. Both me and Naked Pete appear to have been caught on camera out on the town in Hanley. I'm not sure whats worse though - being caught on camera in Creation, or being caught on camera with Pete. I only have vague memory of the photo being taken. It's currently on the Creation website but as you have to register to view it I've included a screen grab here . And yes - I was very very drunk by that point in the night |

Let me introduce you to Umberto, our genuine Italian Chef (yep, this time it's not Mick with a fake moustache and an Italian phrase book). He has been working at the Meg for about month now cooking Italian dishes ranging from Pizza and Pasta to Brushetta and Polli dishes (someone has confirmed that Polli is actually Italian for Chicken and not dead parrot like we first thought). If you've not tried any of the food out yet then what are you waiting for as its fantastic. This guy is a bloody good chef and his food has become a massive hit with the regular's. Prices are really cheap and the food is served between 7pm - 10.30pm. |

The website gets a new home |
09/03/2004 |
 |

|
|
Yesterday I finally managed to finish configuring the websites brand new webserver. For those that don't really know let me give you a bit of the background on my hosting problems. The site used to be hosted by an ISP based in Guernsey, it was pretty cheap but very unreliable and also slow as hell. Towards the end of the last year the hits the website was receiving went through the roof and each month we started going way over our bandwidth limit and I was being charged through the nose for it. Over Christmas I made the decision to temporarily move the site on to a machine in my house. |
|
This worked out well, but due to a limited number of webserver connections on XP, if more than 1 person accessed the site at once the site started to be a bit flakey (pictures or pages would not download). Finally I got round to building a dedicated webserver which is now setup to permanentely run from my spare room. Hopefully the site should be a lot more reliable now, and I can finally get back to updating the site.
Also thanks to everyone for such a sucessful January. During that one month the site received 1119 unique user hits. It may not sound much but consider that before now its taken between 6 months to a year to clock up that many visitors.

On Friday 27th February, Chris's family, friends and the pub regulars all gathered together to celebrate her 50th birthday. She had no idea about the party and just thought a few members of her family were coming over for a quiet drink. It was an excellent night and a great start to the events for 2004. Apparantely I managed to take photographs of all but one person in the pub.
