One thing that the Pennine Tavern has been famous for over the years is its excellent Monday Night Quiz. Who could forget the days of Skel's Skampoo, Alans excellent picture rounds, and those dodgy music quizzes by some guy who's name I can't remember. Lately though the quiz has been more popular than ever (OK maybe thats not quite true, but I'm allowed to be biased as I'm the quiz master)

The quiz takes place each week on a Monday Night beginning at 9pm.It normally consists of 40 general knowledge questions, one or two music rounds (depending how much time I have on a Sunday afternoon), a picture round and Dingbats section. Currently the quiz is being run by Ecke (thats me!!) most weeks and then once a month Rob Walmsley takes the helm. Each week we get around 15 teams battling it out for our top prize.

The 28th July 2003 saw Ecke's 100th quiz at the Tav and was a night of fun embarrasment and celebration. To find out more about what went and how I won my dunces hat click here. This quiz was probably the busiest one the Tav has ever seen - we even had to bring up all the bar stools from the Roebuck so everyone could sit down.

Ecke's 100th Quiz

On Monday 17th March 2003 we celebrated like the Irish and held a special St. Patricks Day quiz hosted by both Ecke & Rob. You would have thought that somebody would have learnt that when me and Rob and free wine get together crazy things happen. We had loads of special prizes to give away including Guiness glasses & T-Shirts, and one way to win them was to take part in my spur of the moment Irish Jigging competion. We had 10 people get up and give it a go.. and these included both Cilla and Spence. It had to be the funniest thing I have seen in the pub for a long time. Mick donated a free pint to everyone who took part, and in the end we couldn't pick an overall winner so we gave them all prizes. Pictures coming soon.

In Feb 2002 we held Mikes "Pop The Balloon" competition. Each team that took part in the quiz was given a silly hat or object with a number on it. When they heard the song "99 Red Balloons" a number was drawn from the hat. A member of the winning team then got the chance to pop a balloon and win a prize.

Dave goes for the snip.

The League Winners - A Big Hand For Jeremy Beadle

In summer 2001 we ran the pubs first Quiz League, which took place over a period of 8 weeks with the teams battling for the coverted prize of lots of free beer. The competition was close with the Valiants taking an early lead, only to be overtaken by the overall league winners "A Big Hand For Jeremy Beadle"

One of the best quizzes of 2001 was the "End Of Year" Quiz. There were lots of prizes up for grabs and special treats for the jokers amongst the pub (or in other words the people that gave me that most abuse). The winners by only one point were "On Me Tod and The Boppers", closely followed by "When's It Due Ecke". I think their team name was a comedy reference to the size of my beer gut.

Big Prizes to be won. Be the proud owner of some BEER!!!!!
